What is a Hospital Sitter?
A hospital sitter, also known as a patient sitter or hospital companion, is a trained professional who provides one-on-one observation and support to patients while they are admitted to the hospital. Hospital sitters are typically used for patients who are at risk of falling, wandering, or exhibiting other behaviors that may put them at risk.
Recuperating During a Short Term Hospital Stay with a Hired Hospital Sitter
Often times families find themselves feeling helpless when a health care setback occurs especially when caregiving is at a distance. If someone in your family is hospitalized or in a senior living rehabilitation center, a hospital sitter can offer peace of mind that their needs are being tended to. Our qualified senior caregivers are available 24/7 to provide the care and comfort that your family member may need. Because of the uncertainty especially in a new environment, many families look for companionship for an aging parent or family member to stay with them during a hospital stay. Care in a hospital setting often times has a shortage of hospital personnel and for that reason a private duty caregiver may ease the transitional stay. Rest assured, families can depend on an “accountable” caregiver we refer to families provided by our nurse registry.
Post-Surgical and After Illness Assistance at Home or During Rehabilation
Having peace of mind that an extra set of eyes is looking after a family member is priceless. With most hospitals and skilled nursing and rehab centers patient to staff ratio being slim, hiring a home health aide or companion to sit with mom or dad can be the answer you have been waiting for. Simple tasks such as accompanying a loved one to and from the dining room at skilled nursing and rehab to assisting writing notes to a loved one can make life easier.
Hospital Sitter While Receiving Hospice Care
Whether you have a loved one at a skilled nursing and rehab, inpatient hospice care center or hospital setting, a licensed senior caregiver can help families feel comfortable knowing a family member in critical care is not left alone. Non-medical health caregivers to staff ratio at facilities can be limited. Get the peace of mind by hiring a hourly caregiver.

Can I get the same caregiver for a morning and evening shift?
Maintaining continuity of care is important for our clients. Commonly known as "split shifts", the morning shift is designed to assist a client with their morning routine. Often referred to as rise and shine service, a four hour minimum is required with each shift. It is rather challenging to staff a client's wish with a split shift, however, it is up to the licensed caregiver to determine if they will accept both morning and evening shift. Evening shifts require a four hour minimum and generally clients request 6pm to 10am.
Can a Companion help with hands on personal care?
A: Companions often referred to as a “sitter” means a person who spends time with or cares for an elderly, handicapped, or convalescent individual. Companions referred to clients at Accountable Home Care are either licensed home health aides (HHAs) or Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs). Unlike an unlicensed individual, these caregivers are professionally trained and licensed to transfer and care for the elderly. The caregivers we refer have their Level 2 Background Check, current CPR certification, general liability insurance, driver’s license among other credentials required by the State of Florida.
