In Palm Beach County, Home Health Aides have to carry a county badge while working. The purpose of the badge is designed to promote safety for the elderly. The badge is an extra layer of protection where the home health aides have to register with Palm Beach County and submit a photo ID whether the aide works for a home care agency or works privately. Other home care personnel such as a registered nurse, certified nursing assistant, or licensed practical nurse are not required to obtain a badge.

    The Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners enacted the Home Caregiver Ordinance in 2015 requiring ID Badges and Level 2 background checks of Home Caregivers to begin in 2016. The ordinance is enforced primarily by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office and Consumer Affairs Investigators. ID Badges are issued by the Division of Consumer Affairs.
